Unable to reply or forward messages in OWA (red x)

Have you ever logged into Outlook Web Access (OWA) using Internet Explorer only to find that the text field of your email message has nothing but a big red "X"?

Well, this is easily fixed. Follow these instructions to get you out of trouble:

  1. Open Internet Explorer and login to OWA
  2. Click the "Options" tab located in the lower left-hand side of your screen
  3. Find "E-mail Security" and where is says "Click here to install the latest version of the S/MIME Control" click Install
  4. When prompted, click "Open"

After the plugin has installed, you will no longer have the annoying red "X"!
